Kathy StraussI am the Genealogy and Special Collections librarian at the Denton Public Library. This is my dream joband I cannot envision wanting to do anything else the rest of my library career. Genealogists are passionate about their profession, and genealogy librarians are no different. This passion is addictive and rewarding. Genealogy has become one of the fastest growing endeavors in the world. I am a native Buckeye, that is, I was born and bred in Columbus, Ohio. I have a BS and MA from The Ohio State University. In my other life, I was a secondary school teacher. After I got married, my world expanded well beyond Ohio. My husband was is the military, and we ended up living in Germany, Texas, Kentucky, Virginia, and Hawaii. I received my MLIS from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. My first job was as a reference librarian at the San Antonio Public Library. After my husband retired from the Army, he came to Denton to attend the University of North Texas Library School. Yes, I did have some influence on his decision. I worked as a childrens librarian for 3 years in Coppell, Texas. I have worked in various capacities at the Denton Public Library since 1995. I have been a childrens librarian, reference librarian, circulation librarian, and at last as the Genealogy and Special Collections Librarian. |
